Messerchmitt talks to Sven Longshanks and Dennis Wise about Hans-Ulrich Rudel and his incredible war record.
He destroyed 519 tanks, 1 battleship, 4 armoured trains and over 150 artillery positions, as well as making rescue flights into hostile territory taking off from muddy fields after picking up his downed comrades.
He even continued his flying missions after having one leg blown off and was awarded the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross with Golden Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds.
Luckily at the end of the war he surrendered to the Americans and managed to avoid accusations of lampshading and soap making at the kangaroo court in Nurembourg.
He even managed to avoid having his family watch stolen, despite attempts to do so by the victorious allies.
Hans Rudel was an example to us all of selfless dedication to his nation and we will be hearing more from Schmitt about other European axis war heroes in future podcasts.
